Teaching license lookup
Look up a teacher's license or credential and see whether it is active, expired, or has been acted on. Pick a state to check a teacher's license against the official board.
How teaching licensing works
A teacher is licensed by the state education agency in the state where they teach, not by the school or district that hires them. The public record shows whether the educator holds an active credential, whether it has expired, and whether the state has denied, suspended, revoked, or annulled it. Districts run their own background checks, but the license itself is a state record, and checking it is how a parent or a hiring office confirms the credential is real and in force.
