How cosmetology licensing works
A cosmetologist is licensed by the state, not nationally, and each state sets its own training and exam requirements. A license record shows whether the license is active and current and when it expires. Checking it before a service, or before you hire or book a stylist, confirms the person is authorized to practice in that state.
